Before & After – A Sierra Madre Craftsman Kitchen

In Pasadena and the surrounding communities, the homes have a bit of a reputation. The area is known not only for its beautiful architecture, but also for the collection of stunning, historical Craftsman houses. These homes have history, charm, and each tells its own story.

As an interior designer, it’s a dream to work in these homes. But, they do come with their own unique set of challenges. It’s not uncommon to rebuild and design an entire space. With historical homes like these, our top priority is to keep as much of the home’s original character as possible while updating and modernizing the interior. And, that’s exactly what we did at this Sierra Madre Craftsman.

Instead of renovating the existing layout, we took a more aggressive approach that involved gutting much of the existing kitchen.

I have to admit, getting creative with the layout was one of my favorite parts of this project.

When we began thinking about this kitchen, one word came to mind… timeless. A sophisticated, yet homey feeling perfectly embodies a Craftsman home and we knew it would be perfect for this kitchen.

As you’ll notice below, tiling became a huge part of the overall design. When it came to picking paint, the accents had to be just right.

Once construction started, all the pieces started to fall into place.

One of my favorite moments was the installation of the countertops.

Of course, nothing beats the final reveal!
