Restyling a Bold La Canada Ranch

On a beautiful street, a family of three (plus one pup) found a classic California ranch featuring gorgeous landscaping. The home was ideal, featuring a superb layout and structure, but the style was a little different than they had envisioned for themselves.

Inside, the home featured bold, bright colors and patterns. But the family was looking for a neutral color palette and a modern feel.

The Wish List

To make the space livable and to bring it from house to home,  the following items were must-haves for this La Canada family.

  • Durable fabrics that would hold up to their family of three and their dog
  • Soft monochromatic colors in grays featuring hints of contrast with a subtle smokey blue
  • A blend of modern and classic design

Interior Design Dilemma

The biggest design dilemma we faced in this home was the use of bold colors throughout the house. As this was so significantly different than what the new homeowners were looking for, I had to use a bit of imagination and visualization to see a more neutral style.

Interior Design Highlights

Just look at the transformation! This home is a perfect example of how a few small changes and a little paint can make a HUGE difference. We added paint and new light fixtures and look and the effects speak for themselves! This was the exact facelift the client was looking for.

Master Bedroom

In the master bedroom, my team and I used an elegant pearl-colored wallpaper to add romance and luxury to the room. On the dresser, we swapped out the original knobs with crystal knobs for a cohesive feel with the room design. However, my favorite part of this room is the beautiful trim detail on the Roman shades.

Nursery

The nursery is my favorite room in the entire home. All the fabrics, colors, and patterns blend seamlessly together here.

Family Room

With a toddler in the house, sharp edges can be dangerous. Instead of using a potentially hazardous coffee table, my team and I picked out an oversized leather ottoman. Once the bright walls and patterned carpeting were removed, we opted for grays and blues in this room along with family and pet-friendly fabrics. The artwork selected adds the right amount of drama to liven up the space.

Kitchen

The kitchen was the biggest, but the simplest transformation in this California ranch. My team and I added white paint, updated light fixtures, and replaced hardware to transform this room into an entirely new kitchen!
