Festival of Trees Pasadena

Designing to Give Back

Festival of Trees Pasadena

If you’re a Pasadena local, you’ve likely heard of a wonderful charity event benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills called Festival of Trees. For the last two years, Peltier Home has participated in this annual event. As a third-time tree designer in 2017, it’s safe to say we take our tree decorating very seriously! By Halloween, we’ve planned our theme and we shortly after, we begin our shopping!

Festival of Trees 2017

This year, there were 33 decorated trees (17 full-size trees and 16 table top trees)and a handful of wreaths available for auction. Festival attendees have the option to purchase raffle tickets and bit on their favorite trees. But it’s not just the tree they are bidding on — it’s also the presents underneath.

We love this event not only for its beauty and holiday spirit but also because of the creativity demonstrated by each participant. It’s true, the tree designers can get a bit carried away, but it’s all for a good cause. This year, one team even auctioned off a puppy!

Peltier Home Tree Theme

There are few queens in history as iconic as Marie Antoinette, and she served as our inspiration for our tree this year. We choose the theme “Let Them Eat Cake!” We filled our tree with gorgeous hues inspired by the French queen. Even our nutcrackers flowed smoothly into the design. To accent, we added white feathers reminiscent of an 18th-century headdress.

The gifts underneath also followed our theme. We included gift cards to restaurants, spas, and the Langham Hotel along with pink candles from Archipelago, and fresh macaroons.

We’re sure the queen herself would have been quite pleased!

This event is a highlight for us each year. We have so much fun seeing our tree concept come to fruition, bidding on other trees, dressing up, enjoying dinner, and dancing afterward — all for a great local cause that’s raised nearly 1 million dollars in it's 7 years!

It’s not too late to get your tree decorations and holiday gifts!

Peltier Home Curated Gifts

In the recent post on bespoke gift suggestions, I mentioned one of my favorite holiday gift items — a magnifying glass! I love this idea because it always creates a conversation. A magnifying glass is classy, elegant and works in a variety of well-designed spaces. We have four you can purchase right online, or stop by the store to browse the full selection.

  1. Knobby Wood Magnifying Glass
  2. Black & White Magnifying Glass
  3. Black & Tan Wooden Magnifying Glass
  4. Carved Bone Magnifying Glass

The fourth item is my personal favorite!

Candles may feel a bit cold, but there are ways to make this holiday gift thoughtful! Pick out a scent the recipient would love (I highly recommend Winter Frost) and pair with a classy candle holder and candle snuffer. This Gold Rimmed Spotted Glass is an excellent choice for a candle holder. The simplicity of it allows it to fit in with most interior design concepts.

Another often overlooked item is the trinket box. Here are two I absolutely adore.

  1. Hand Painted Bone Box
  2. Hand Painted Bone Box (octagonal)

Like the candle mentioned above, these are simple to personalize. Write a heartfelt letter to the recipient and place inside the box. Or, fill the box with their favorite chocolates or candies. Whatever you decide to do, you aren’t just limited to giving the box! Add your own touch here that shows the recipient you put extra thought and care into their gift.

In another recent post, I discussed my must-have home accessory — vases! This item also makes a great holiday gift. There is so much to do with a vase.  When giving as a gift, pair with flowers or purchase a vase in a pattern you know will fit perfectly into a room at the recipient's home. I love this Blown Bubble Glass Vase for its unique shape and versatility. This vase can be used in the winter or any other season. The look of this vase can be completely transformed by the arrangement that goes along with it.

If you have not yet found the perfect holiday gift, stop and see us at 1011-A Mission Street in South Pasadena, we’d be happy to help find the ultimate present for everyone on your list.

Christmas Home Decor

A Holiday-Ready Home

Christmas Home Decor

When you think about the holiday season, what’s your favorite thing? I know for me, one of my favorites is just how beautiful it is this time of year. During the holidays, people change up their usual style, they fill their home with twinkling lights, and find inspiration in unexpected places. While creating the perfect Christmas home decor should be a fun experience, it can also be overwhelming.

I love this time of the year because I love helping my clients pull it all together. Each year, my team and I are asked to help some of our clients design the perfect holiday home.

The Wish List

This family of four was ready for the holidays, but their living room was not quite there. They wanted a place to entertain and enjoy the season with their loved ones. They gravitated towards modern style and wanted a bit of edginess in their home, but they didn’t want to sacrifice the warm, comfortable feelings often associated with a living room.

The Must-Haves

  • Comfortable upholstery pieces
  • Bar cart for entertaining
  • Minimal patterns
  • Custom artwork
  • Modern, edgy design

Design Inspiration

Restoration Hardware served as the base inspiration for this client. The walls throughout the house are pure white by Benjamin Moore. The vaulted ceilings and brick fireplace already existed, giving us a balanced foundation to use when planning the design. The symmetry of the room played a significant role in the simplicity of the space. These elements all came together to inspire the final interior design plan.

To create the desired effect, we used bold, custom artwork as the focal point of the room. Behind the sofa, we incorporated a series of maps. The client was not big on patterns, the graphic design on the pair of stools was a no-brainer. It complimented the room perfectly.

We pulled the room together with a large rug to accent the space and added a hint of glam with the mirrored coffee table. Of course, we wouldn’t leave out the bar cart! We found the perfect cart and accessorized to match the feel of the room.

Preparing the Home for Christmas

The final part of this project was to get the home ready for Christmas! We added a large Christmas tree to the corner of the room. We designed the tree around the room itself. To create texture and interest, we collected large and small ornaments made with different materials. In the tree, we mixed glass, icicle, and feathered ornaments. We filled the tree with white lights and sat back to admire the final design. Formal, elegant, and timeless just in time for Christmas!
